Morpeth Mansion

Morpeth Terrace Mansion in the heart of Westminster

The top two floors of Morpeth Mansion served as Winston Churchill's London base from 1930 or 1932 (accounts vary) through 1939. This red brick 1880s apartment block was half a mile from Parliament. The Churchill's enlarged the two-storey flat, but the kitchen and study were tiny, and the access to the upper floor was a narrow spiral staircase. On a less historical note, we stayed in an apartment on the lower level during our visit to London.
